Platamonas beach
Swimming in the Aegean – with a view of the mountains and the castle.
The beach is simply part of life in Platamonas. Several stretches of beach follow one another along the village, spread between the centre, the harbour and the coast towards the castle. Sand, fine gravel and smaller pebbly sections alternate.
It is precisely this mixture that makes the coast varied: there are lively stretches with beach bars and sunbeds, and just as many quieter ones where you can simply spread out your towel and walk straight into the sea.
Many small stretches rather than one single beach
When people speak of “the beach of Platamonas”, they do not really mean a single beach. The coast consists of several stretches following directly on from one another, and of small bays.
Some stretches are fully organised and offer parasols, sunbeds, cafés or beach bars. In between there are always freely accessible stretches without fixed facilities. That is exactly why you can find both lively and distinctly quieter spots.
Anyone who likes to move between different stretches of beach during their holiday usually does not have to drive far to do so.
Clear water and excellent bathing quality
In 2026 too, Platamonas is among the Blue Flag beaches of Greece. The award takes into account, among other things, the quality of the bathing water, safety, cleanliness, environmental management and the facilities available.
On calm days the water of the Aegean is particularly clear, and it invites you to swim from late spring well into the autumn.

Our tip
Do not stay on one beach only. The different stretches of Platamonas differ noticeably from one another.
For a quiet atmosphere it is worth looking a little outside the central areas. Anyone who prefers beach bars, cafés and more life will find plenty of options around the central stretches.
A beach with an extraordinary backdrop
What is special about Platamonas is not the sea alone.
Behind the village the green foothills of the Olympus massif already begin, while to the north the medieval castle of Platamonas stands above the coast.
The result is a backdrop typical of the region: blue sea, green mountains and history in the smallest of spaces.
Early in the morning or in the evening, when the light softens, this landscape shows itself at its finest.
Relaxed or lively – both are possible
In high season the central stretches of beach can become busy. Platamonas is one of the best-known resorts in Pieria and attracts many Greek and international holidaymakers during the summer months.
If you are looking for atmosphere, you will find beach bars, cafés and restaurants along the coast. If you prefer things quieter, you will usually find a more relaxed stretch outside the central areas without much searching.
The beach is therefore equally suited to families, couples and travellers who simply want to spend a few hours by the sea.
From the beach straight into a taverna
One of the great advantages of Platamonas is how close the beach and the village are.
From many stretches of beach, restaurants, tavernas, cafés and small shops are within easy reach. You can spend the morning by the sea, go to a taverna for lunch and afterwards return to the beach.
Around the harbour in particular, fish and seafood are traditionally on the menu.
The surroundings are worth it too
If you are looking for a change, there are further fine stretches of beach along the coast.
Particularly well known is the area of Neos Panteleimonas and Panteleimon Beach below the castle of Platamonas. There the beach, the wooded slopes and the historic fortress come together in a particularly striking way.
To the south, towards Nei Pori, further long stretches of the Olympic Riviera follow on.
A beach for the whole holiday
The good thing about Platamonas is that a day at the beach needs no great planning.
The sea is right on the doorstep, many areas are within walking distance, and you do not have to go far from the beach for a meal or a coffee. At the same time you can try a slightly different stretch every day.
A swim in the Aegean in the morning, the afternoon under a parasol and in the evening straight from the beach into a taverna – that is exactly what summer in Platamonas feels like.
